A summer afternoon with Mayor Daley's boys

Chicago DNC 1968
With the 2016 Democratic Convention coming up in a few days, I went back and looked at the photos I shot at my first political convention.

In the summer of 1968, some friends and I decided we needed to check out the DNC in Chicago. We spent the day in Grant Park listening to hippies and activists. I have a shot of Jerry Rubin, Alan Ginsburg and William Burroughs with Phil Ochs in the background.

When the crowd set off toward the convention site, we tagged along with them until the police blocked the route. We chose to skip the fun with billy clubs, but we did get a few whiffs of tear gas later in Old Town.

Here's my photo gallery.
